I.N.G.V. International Institute of Volcanology & Geophysics ( 1996 – 1997- 1998 )

         Director. Prof. G. Lanzafame;

The following researches has been conducted to Etna Volcano, Sicily, and concerns:

·          Volcanism and Tectonics: the active volcanoes of Sicily in a framework of domains having different tectonic behaviour;

·          Study of the underwater evolutionary record of the sicilian coast, especially at the feet of Mt. Etna. Various different types of marine fossils found in the volcanits of  Acireale zone( Timpe ), near Catania ( Sicily ), were used in the research;

·          Study of the paleontology using marine fossils found on the Eastern side of the Mt. Etna’ base, along the Ionian coast Sea. These marine fossils are interpolated to the oldest eruttivs units of the Volcano( Pleistocene Upper – Holocene ). The particular interest of this research lies both, on to date precisely these first and unknown stages of Mt. Etna’ activity, and the possibility to calibrate with extreme precision the dynamics of the relations between sea level and lands, in Sicily region, submitted to vivacious tectonics and vulcanism.
